It's True... Fence Saga Part Deux
It's True, you can't make everyone happy ~ But I'm no quitter. I keep trying to make everyone happy. Or maybe I hate if people are mad/upset/hate me... Either way I tried very hard to make the crabby old lady next door happy but yet I failed again.
Since I moved in I've asked her to split the cost of a new fence but she said no, it was broken because of my dogs, not the rotting old wood.
So when I saw her on Friday, I told her I was having it replaced. She says, "It's broken?" I kept from saying, "It's been f'ing broken since I moved in". She said OK and to let her know how much it was going to cost. I got a little excited that this meant she might help me pay for the new fence.
On the Sunday, after I got the quote from the very nice fence man scarily named FIDEL, I knocked on her door to tell her how much and discuss the design. No answer. Knocked later, no answer. I know she was home as she is elderly and mostly stays at home now and the lights were on.
Deciding that I wasn't going to be able to talk to her I came to the realization that I would be paying for the fence. Fine...
Monday they knock down the thing and make the frame, letting it set overnite. All the commotion, noise, etc and no sign from old crabby.
Tuesday they start putting up the boards. Fidel asked me how to make it. Because I couldn't get crabby to talk to me, I asked him to make it exactly the same(without the bungies, of course) The Old Fence. I was worried about changing anything and pissing her off.
Knowing nothing about fences and the like, exactly the same apparently is good for me, bad for her. Exactly the same is the pretty part all facing my yard, the back facing her yard. Who Knew???
Nice man, scary name Fidel tells me that she has been there complaining to him, telling him to take it down, change it. He doesn't, of course and apparently she is mad.
I thought about trying to talk to crabby, but my other neighbor said I didn't do anything wrong. I paid for the thing. Heck, if she wants to fork out the bucks she can have wood put on her side if she wants, right? We'll see if I get a call from the association.
It's really discouraging when I try to do the right thing, try to make everyone happy, and all I get is crabby old lady ...
But then I look out my window and see my perdy fence and everything is good again :)
